Parabikulam Tiger Reserve (which also includes the Parabikulam Wildlife Sanctuary) is a 643.66 km2 (248.5 sq mi) protected area in Parabikulam, Kerala, southern India. The wildlife sanctuary covers an area of ​​285 square kilometers (110 square miles) and was partially established between 1973 and 1984. Parabikulam Wildlife Sanctuary was declared a part of Parabikulam Tiger Reserve on 19 February 2010. The Western Ghats, Anamalaya Group, including the entire Parabikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, have been declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The tiger reserve is home to four indigenous tribes, including Kadar, Maratha, Muduwar and Maratha tribes, settled in six countries. Parabikkulam Tiger Reserve implements the Tiger Project and various programs of the Government of India and the Government of Kerala. Tiger management efforts are based on the plan made by the National Tiger Conservation Authority. People from tribes living on the reserve are employed as hikers and hunters, and employment opportunities are provided through various ecotourism businesses. Parabikkulam Tiger Reserve is one of the ten best managed tiger reserves in India. There are many capacity building workshops in the tiger reserve conducted by Parabikkulam Tiger Conservation Trust and various other organisations.
